As an update to the 9 March Media Release the following information is now to hand.Katherine, the first locomotive for use on Alice Springs to arwin Railway construction trains was successfully loaded onto its road transport at Roe Creek, south of Alice Springs, this afternoon, with the T hief Minister Claire Martin in attendance.

09/03/02    Alice and Darwin Locomotives to hit the road
Another milestone in the Alice Springs to Darwin rail project will be reached on Wednesday 13 March when Australia Southern Railroad (ASR) delivers its first locomotive for use on the project construction trains, to the Katherine work site.

A 120-year old railway bridge over the Murrumbidgee River near Wagga Wagga, which reduces interstate freight trains to a 20 km per hour crawl, will be a major impediment to any proposals for an Inland Rail Expressway according to the Railway Technical Society of Australasia (RTSA).

Chief Executive of Australia Southern Railroad (ASR), Mr Charles Chabot said today that the signing of a five-year service agreement with BHP for the management and operation of BHP Whyalla Steelwork's rail network was a fitting conclusion to what had been a successful and profitable year for ASR.

21/10/99      National Express Keen on Bairnsdale to Melbourne passenger service
The Save Our Train Action Group (SOTAG) last week joined a delegation from East Gippsland Shire Council in meeting with National Express, the new franchisee of V-Line passenger services.

21/10/99      Freight Victoria to open up jobs in East Gippsland. Yesterday Freight Victoria called internally for 2 drivers interested in transferring to the Eastern region for an anticipated increase in work for that area. This includes crewing arrangements for the resumption of freight services from Traralgon to Bairnsdale. Applications close on the 1st of November and a condition of employment is that applicants must be prepared to transfer almost immediately. It does not state the location to where crews would be based....assumed Morwell, as there is a need for daily pilot work there with now 3 eastern services running daily.
