A feasibilty study into passenger train services between Melbourne & Mildura will
commence on Oct 4 99 to be completed by June 2000.
3 routes are being looked at by National Express Australia
1..Melbourne - Ballarat - Maryborough - Ouyen - Mildura
2..Melbourne - Geelong - Ballarat - Maryborough - Ouyen - Mildura
3..Melbourne - Bendigo - Swan Hill - Piangil - Ouyen - Mildura
All options will require infrastructure investment to allow 160 KMH running while the
third option will also require the construction of 97 KM of new rail line between Piangil
and Ouyen.
Apparently there is a lot of interest in the North West for option 3 as the existing Swan
Hill - Mildura coach services are quite well patronised with passengers travelling on
local journeys between Bendigo - Kerang - Swan Hill and Mildura
