CORE2002 - 'Cost Efficient Railways Through Engineering'
Sunday 10 November to Wednesday 13 November, 2002 Wollongong, New South
Wales, Australia

The Conference on Railway Engineering 2002 (CORE2002) will be the premier
rail industry conference held in Australia during 2002, with over 400
delegates expected to attend and 45 suppliers showcasing the latest
technological developments from the Australian rail industry.

CORE2002 will be hosted by the Railway Technical Society of Australasia (NSW
Chapter) in conjunction with the Rail Track Association of Australia, with
the theme of "Cost Efficient Railways Through Engineering."

This major three-day event will run from Sunday 10 November to Wednesday 13
November 2002 and is being held at the Novotel, Northbeach, Wollongong, New
South Wales.

Over 55 technical papers will be presented covering a range of
multi-disciplinary subjects and CORE2002 will seek to promote excellence and
a sharing of views in the field of railway engineering. Specific topics that
will be featured include Risk Management and Trackside Monitoring Systems
for Safer railways, new design Passenger and Freight Rolling Stock
initiatives, Computer Based Simulation Training, Asset Management Systems,
Wheel/ Rail interaction and Urban and Regional fast rail links.

The Conference will seek to highlight ways in which innovative engineering
practices are being used to ensure that rail in Australia remains an
efficient and competitive mover of passengers and freight during a time of
wide-ranging organisational change.

The Keynote Speaker will be Mysore Nagaraja, Vice-President and Chief
Engineer of the New York City Transit Authority. Mysore's presentation will
cover current railway developments in the USA including the ability of the
NYCTA to deal with the aftermath of the 11 September tragedy. A series of
Plenary Sessions with high-profile industry speakers will focus on the
development of a future vision for the rail industry.

A full social and partners programme will be run in conjunction with
CORE2002 and a series of technical visits will be arranged for Wednesday 13
November.

As with all CORE events the participation of industry partners through
Sponsorship and Exhibition is vital to the success of the event. With 400
delegates expected to attend the plenary and technical sessions, the event
will provide a high level of exposure for corporate sponsors and exhibitors.

Major Sponsor for CORE2002 is the Australian Rail Track Corporation, which
provides seamless management, access and investment over 4400 kilometres of
the interstate rail network. Other Corporate sponsors who have committed
support to CORE2002 include John Holland Construction, United Goninan and
Union Switch and Signal.

The associated trade exhibition at CORE2002 is the only industry exhibition
planned in Australia for 2002 and therefore space is expected to be at a
premium.
