GB open goods wagons

GB 887 to 986

A contract (Number 1799) was awarded in 1951 to "Metropolitan Cammell" for the construction of 240 open goods wagons which were classified "GB" and allocated road numbers "887" through "1126". 1st September 2005,Islington – AOPY32388 freshly out shopped ore wagon – ex CR Leigh Creek AOKF coal wagon

During 2005-2006 a total of 70 wagons converted from the "AOKF" class to the "AOPY" to supplement the iron ore wagon fleet between the Western Australian Koolyanobbing mine site and Esperance. This involved the wagons being shortened in length by 3m and being modified, as well as being painted in a green livery. The modified wagons were all given new road numbers in the Western Australian Numbr list range of "32371" to "32410" and "34073" to "34102". The converted wagons had all been built by the Commonwealth Railways for use on the coal traffic between Leigh Creek and the Port Augusta Power Station. They were withdrawn from use in January 1999 when ARG lost the coal haulage contract to Freight Corp.
