So it's not just Melbourne who has to put up with this! Eltham station about
a year or so ago had to stop making announcements after 8pm because the
neighbours complained (must have been loud, the houses aren't THAT close!
After a few months the PTC received a few official complaints from
passengers who had missed trains due to there being no announcements (not
all trains go to Hurstbridge, only half during an evening and it's an hour
to the next one) so they were reinstated. Perhaps this could be a solution
to your SillyRail problem...
