Map BR - Rail map of Southern QueenslandThis map covers the sub-tropical region of the state of Queensland in Eastern Australia. It stretches from the city of Brisbane in the South to Rockhampton on the tropic of Capricorn in the North, and westward to Charleville and Longreach. The climate is generally warm, with the coastal strip enjoying wet summers and dry winters. The coastal strip is very fertile and lush with sugar cane being the predominant crop, to the west are flat dry plains extending to outback supporting cattle farming and grain crops. Train services are operated by Queensland Railways (QR). Their flagship service is the Tilt Train which runs daily between Brisbane and Rockhampton, and also a second service between Brisbane and Bundaberg. This train is Australia's fastest scheduled train, and is Australia's only 'Tilting' train. QR also operate comfortable interurban trains between Brisbane, Nambour and Gympie North. Long distance trains under the brand name "TravelTrain" are operated by QR. "The Westlander" runs twice weekly from Brisbane to Charleville, "The Spirit of the Outback" runs twice weekly from Brisbane to Longreach, "The Sunlander", "The Queenslander" and "The Spirit of the Tropics" all run from Brisbane to Rockhampton and coastal cities further north.
