To view descriptions of rail journeys, trains and links to timetables and on-line bookings, Select your origin city from the menu at left. An alphabetical list of destinations will be displayed including other towns and cities not listed at left. Other originating cities will be added in coming weeks.

The Rail Australia Website, contains a decent summary of timetables and fares for many of the long distance train services in Australia. Beware however that it appears to include only the services provided by Great Southern Railway, Countrylink and Queensland Railways, but not any information for V/Line, Western Australian Railways nor any metropolitan networks. For those areas it is recommended you go to the operator's website as listed below.

The traintravelling.com site, based in the USA, provides a broad overview of Australian rail travel from a visitor's perspective. It also has many useful links.

Travellers Lounge is an excellent British site for anyone looking for travel and touring information worldwide.

The Australasian Railway Association has an on-line map showing all the currently operational railways (Freight as well as Passenger) in Australia and New Zealand. It shows some technical information such as track gauge as well as operational status. It does not however include detail of metropolitan areas nor does it show all stations.
