Are you sure? Even then, it would have been a truly enourmous
undertaking. With all the investment QR has place in it's existing
narrow-guage infrastructure, re-gauging the state would take several
decades at brain-boggling cost. I can't see it happening for at least
forty years, to pull a number out of the hat. Actually, I can't see it
happening at all.

A dual guage link makes good sense, however. I'm guessing that
double-stacking would only really make sense outside of the range of
electrification, anyway. The whole inland-port thing, methinks.
