Increase the supply (frequencies) and the demand (patronage) will grow alongside it.

The problem with Sydney (esp with private bus companies, but also applies to trains)
is that they think the demand for their service isn't there. Come to think about it,
if one company just has an attempt at increasing frequencies, I bet you there'll be
more people that'll be leaving their cars at home.

Because the frequency is so lousy.  Further every second off peak service
city bound service has a ten minute stop at Hornsby.  This "delay" hardly
encourages train travel.  It also seems that every time there is trackwork
on the North Shore or Main North CityRail takes the opportunity to cancel
trains in the Hornsby - Berowra corridor.  Again the time delays through
using the replacement bus service do not encourage later train travel.
