Speed was apparently low according to those who could hear the
trains... much less than 50kph , but the collision occured in a gorge
with very limited visibility.... described as a "blind curve" by a
nearby resident 

Given visibility was restricted and that the driver had time to get
out and warn passengers in the front of the first car, the speed of
the intercity train must have been low.
