Loops On the noth coast fit into 3 categories.

1. About 400 meters say 55 S trucks + 2 Locos Steam Age Infrastructure

2. 700 meters to 900 meters
I think it was about 1980 they began to progressively extend every 2nd or
3rd loop to initially 660 meters and as the years rolled by to about 900
meters from Telarah to Grafton. This had ceased before Paul Keatings Vision
from God, One Nation.

3. The Current standard of 1800 meters where it can be placed or minimum
1500 meters. Pauls Vision, One Nation.
Other loops like Kempsey were to be done but the well ran dry also look at
Cowan and Macarthur

The unoficial rule for XPT running that drivers and train controllers quiet
well understood was 3 reds and your out.

i.e. Two knocks of up to 5 minutes between Telarah and Casino ok. Give me a
third and I will be late!

1 Knock Casino Brisbane

This seemed to be the practical rule all worked to.

It should be realised that a saving of many hours freight running can be
gained by a 5 minute XPT Delay. These time additions are significant costs
and service impediments to freight.
