Re: problems at ringwood (again) - sun 17/10

: Why don't we just progressively remove all the level crossings a la
: Boronia, starting with the ones on the Ringwood line (you could take
: out 4 in one go there by lowering the line between laburnam and
: heatherdale for a fairly small sum of money)?

There should be three tracks between Box Hill and Ringwood, at the same
time the level crossings at Middleborough Rd, Blackburn Rd, Springvale
Rd, Rooks Rd, Mitcham Rd, and Heatherdale Rd should all go. They all
have their problems. Middleborough has had a couple of people killed,
Blackburn Rd is in the middle of an intersection, Springvale Rd is
a mojor problem with traffic, Rook's road is sort of alright (but
might as well get rid of it), Mitcham Rd had too much traffic, and
Heatherdale Rd is a major problem when trains bank up at Ringwood, the
gates will just stay down for 30-40 minutes for train after train.

: Replacing level crossings with grade separations not only eliminates
: the safety issue (barring a granville, or someone jumping off the
: bridge onto the tracks) but also improves traffic flow on the road, and
: makes it easier to transfer from bus to train.

Removing the level crossings between Ringwood and Box Hill will open up
the section south of the Railway line to Mooroondah Hwy and the Eastern
Freeway.
