Re: Time To Start the Security Guard threads again? (Was Big train wreck in England)

The reason management and Transport Minister can't see that we're right is
because they aren't our bread and butter. They don't catch our trains at
night and they certainly don't see some of the atrocities that we put up
with on a daily basis. They aren't interested in our opinion on the "nuts
and bolts" day to day issues of running trains. Please don't get me wrong,
my job is great on the whole and it's always a learning experience but
putting security guards on trains has not made me "feel safer" either as
part of the travelling public or as a guard. I do agree that there are some
good security guards but unfortunately, like anything they are greatly
outnumbered by the "bad apples". The reality of it all is, of course, the
society in which we live and the lack of respect that people have toward
anyone is such that we need these security guards and also that if I had the
audacity to ask someone to put out their cigarette before getting on the
train, I'm a bitch, cow...and all the rest. I'll jump off my soapbox
now.....

Thanks for the comments Eric....much appreciated
