The TAR was certainly worked using MES instruments. I believe the
instruments were installed whilst the line was being built so
construction trains operated under MES rules which is the reverse to
what normally happens.

I have in my possession a magnificent brass miniature staff for the
section McLeay-Woocalla to prove that the line was worked using this
system. I believe the instruments were not disimilar to the VR pattern.
