Probably the old story of chopper / camshaft coupling.  The 4D would have
constant acceleration, whereas a Comeng would have surges as resistances are
switched out.  V sets in Sydney that have choppers and camshafts on the one
train are very rough.

The 4D probably has a higher acceleration rate than the Comeng too.
