Please Note, you will need to download Christine Sweetnam's
S class cab without the NR mug before using this locomotive.

This model was produced using Train Sim Modeler v1.1.
I would like to thank Ian Bowles for the many hours of work he
has put into developing more realistic brake and physics values
for all Australian MSTS rolling stock. This locomotive uses his
brake and physics upgrades.
Peter Bermingham's excellent books "The ML2 Story" and "The A7 Era"
were used as a reference while making this model. Without these
books, I doubt that I would have been able to model such a
difficult locomotive.
The train-sim.com cab design forum was a useful source of
information, Especially Christine Sweetnam's thread about
her S class cab.
Specular lighting enhancements added with MSTS Shape File

About the prototype:
--------------------
Following on from the success of the B class locomotives, the
VR again turned to Clyde Engineering when ordering their second
class of mainline diesel electric locomotives. These new locos
were designated the S class and featured the classic EMD
streamlined nose. Unlike the double ended B class, the S
featured the more traditional single ended arrangement with
only basic hostlers controls provided at the flat No2 end.
They were built in two batches. S300 - S309 entered service in 1957
and 1958. S310 - S317 were ordered for use on the new SG line from
Melbourne to Albury and entered service in 1960.
The first two units were withdrawn after the horrific Violet Town
head on collision in February 1969. S314 and S316 were destroyed,
but some parts were salvaged for use in the two X class
locomotives that replaced them.
The rest gave many years of reliable service until they were
gradually withdrawn during the late 1980's and 1990's. At the moment
four are left in service as slave units for Freight Australia, while
S300, 302 and 311 were refurbished by West Coast Railway and are now
used on the Melbourne to Warrnambool passenger service.
S313 was allocated to Steamrail and is now preserved in operational
condition. S303 was allocated to the Seymour Railway Heritage Centre
and re-entered service in early 2002 following a major re-build.
All locomotives in the class were named after prominent individuals
associated with the development of Victoria. This tradition
followed on from the original four S class steam locomotives which
were named when they were streamlined in 1937 to haul Victoria's
most famous passenger train, the "Spirit Of Progress".
There are two locomotives in this download. S302 is named "Edward
Henty, who was a settler at Portland in the 1830's. S313 is named
"Alfred Deakin", who was a Prime Minister of Australia.

Installation:
-------------
This add-on uses an installation program. Double click on the
executable file and follow the prompts to install the "VR - V/Line
S class for MSTS".
When prompted to choose the directory for the installation of the S
class, please make sure the path points to where you installed MSTS:
<drive>:\<directories>\<msts dir>\
Where <drive> = Drive where you have installed MSTS.
and <directories> = Any directories between the root directory of
the drive and the "Train Simulator" directory.
Light engine consists have been provided. To run these locos on a
train, you will need to use the consist editor.
