Just out of interest the stopping distance for a train at 65 km/h (40 m/h)
on level track is around 200 meters (including a 20% safety margin)

(deceleration of 2.2 m/p, stopping distance is 0.4 V^2 V = speed in
miles per hour, 0.33 V^2 for 1/50 uphill, 0.5 V^2 for 1/50 downhill)

Someone else can turn into metric.
