Criticising tangaras is a regular column in this newsgroup and probably
deserves its own newsgroup. I have travelled on 1000's of tangara services
since they were first introduced in the late 1980's. I usually travel on at
least one every working day and often twice a day. On MYopinion as a
PASSENGER I would much rather travel on a Tangara than an other CityRail
train except an perhaps an Interurban V-set. I don't mind the fixed
seating - many suburban trains the world over have fixed seating. Yes the
seats are firm but not as hard as the C-sets and not covered in some
sticking coating like the refurbished S, K & R set cars. The high seat
backs of the Tangara to me are preferable to the low back seats of many
other types. The stair design from the upper and lower decks are easier to
enter and leave from. The view from both decks (especially the top deck) is
superb. I don't have a problem with the air conditioning - in all my years
of travelling on a Tangara there has probably been only 4-5 times where the
air conditioning was defective - may be I'm lucky that way but I don't think
so. When Tangaras were introduced they portrayed a modern clean image for
CityRail which helped in its marketing - they still look the flashiest of
all Australia's suburban trains.

Tangaras are not perfect and others are free to disagree with my opinions
but I think Goninian should be complemented on a fine job.
