However they were being administered by ex-Australian-railway
"managers", who never missed an opportunity to
do everything from scratch without the slightest acknowledgment that the
rest of the world has any experience from which to learn. I think some
of them have now returned to Australia and are prominent in the
preservation scene.
I seem to remember something about that now - wasn't that the loco which had the pantograph stuck on the roof and which, like its Italian counterpart, was one of the few electric steam engines? Thermal Efficiency on a thing like that would have been right out the door! I thought the term was "Australian Manglers".

That's the first time I've ever heard a converted 32 class referred to
as a "natural resource". Besides, I thought you said it was Nepal, not
Tibet? Or did they run in both countries? The plot thickens.

That's the intriguing question because there is even evidence arrising which suggestes that one MAY have run in India. To have done this would almost certainly have required a gauge change, so it would be interesting to follow up on that because as I understand it, gauge changing a 32 would not be a simple matter, if for no other reason than because of the way their frames stress.
