Now that's interesting because these locos were a QR design which were built by Walkers - some going to the QR & some to the CR, so I wonder if a QR engine was mixed at Walkers, and somehow made it to the NNR. The NNR by the way was great system in the colonial days and sported a number of very modern refinements for its time. These included the telegraph and an early diesel introduced by the yanks during the war - one of the GE type like the NSWGR 79 class.
Yes, it is a very interesting system, though I have perhaps misled you by referring to it as the Nepalese National system, as I meant to write national with a lower case n.  The system's full title is Railways of the Kingdom of Nepal, and is usually referred to as "ROKN", which appears on the tenders and tanksides of steam engines in 14" yellow San Serif lettering, edged in red.  The diesel fleet has the same legend, but on the side of the bodysides in 4ft letters in Red, which contrasts nicely with the body colour, which is predominantly light green.

The poor state of the track over most of the system is responsible for the oft repeated exclamation of visiting westerners, "Wow, look at that ROKN roll!"

I've seen Stephen's work, and really love the way he plays light over his subject. He did some marvellous shots in Japan in 1959 of Mt Fuji. Its unlikely anyone will ever shoot Mt Fuji just the way he did - it was magical.
Yes, I have seen his 1959 Mt Fuji shots, they are of amazing quality considering he was only 3 years old at the time.  They do say that true genius manifests itself early.
