Of course, a MAJOR power grid failure really would impact diesel & steam
loco's.

With no power, diesel would have to be hand-pumped into loco's. Oil
pipelines
would stop flowing, & fuel would have to be hand pumped into road tankers.

Even if 3801 is made Y2K compliant :-) , how is the coal going to be
transported & loaded? Most of that infrastructure is gone, so we are back to
hand-pumping fuel into a front-end loaders & semi-trailers.

Then there's water. How do you think the distribution system is controlled &
powered? Electricity, computers & the dreaded embedded chips. So even 1210
and 2706 could be in trouble!

Meanwhile, in backward third-world countries with pick-and-shovel economies,
life goes on as normal.
