Has anyone noticed the strange colours on the axleboxes of Freight
Victoria grain wagons? Take a look at the wagon behind the locos in this
photo. The purple isn't the clearest in this scan of a print but it does
show up more on a slide I have of the same train.

I have noticed other colours on the axleboxes of bogies on other grain
wagons. Does anybody here know why they do this?
