The chip's on a plastic card the size of a credit cards (though some
phones use a smaller supporting card). The chip itself looks like a
series of gold plated contacts on the card (you'll also have seen them
on smart parking cards and the banks new smart cash cards)
SIM = Subscriber Information/Interface Module (contains your PIN,
phone number, and up to 50 phone numbers in memory on card).
GSM = Global System Mobiles (standard worldwide digital standard).
