I don't see why not. The Iberian broad gauge is 5'6", and that is
converted to standard gauge at the French border.

But I don't really see why broad/standard conversion on the move would be
required. If you're going to run a service from, say, Melbourne to Wagga,
then run it on sg all the way.

It would be better to regauge that line from both ends.
