Trains for tourists to ride?

We'll be in Oz in May 1998, starting in Melbourne, wanting to
stay there three or four days, thence to Sydney (when I last lived
in Sinny the train was called the Southern Aurora - what is
it now?), side trip to Leura in the Blue Mountains, thence
Taree (family) thence Brisbane, thence Cairns and away back
to cold old Berlin.
All suggestions of scenic train rides / luxury tours in restored
grandeur / fun rides gratefully accepted.
F'rinstancve, Melbourne / Sydney by train wuld be fun - but we would
want a sleeper. Does that exist?
