No - all stations have ticket machines accepting up to $20 notes, I had to
use the ticket machine at Katoomba for my ticket (it worked, and gave change
of a $20). It was clear cut fare evasion, they thought that because it was
that time of the morning they could get away without buying a ticket.
Fortunately, it cost them about 45 mins wait at Springwood at 0300 (always a
nice time to be at Springwood in September).
