Re: [NSW Ci-tyra-il] Airport Link

Now I'm awake I'll have a second crack at this.

11/19minute headways for the Airport line on a weekend are pretty tragic.
There must be a way to swing 15 minute headways (preferably 10 minutes) all
day on Saturdays and Sundays? And terminating every 2nd train at Central
before proceeding around the City Circle!!! Of all passengers those
travelling to or from the airport with luggage do not want to change trains
on a 10km airport/city trip, especially having paid a surcharge on the
standard distance based fares.

A little more imagination on the flying junctions reconstruction and some
imaginative trackwork using diamonds with moveable frogs (al la QR) could
have seen all weekend up Airport Line trains directed to platform 17 and
traverse the City Circle Outer before proceeding back to Turrella via the
Airport. Probably the most efficient use of rolling stock and 5 x 6 car
trains could run at 10 minute headways.

The conflicting movement where up Airport Line trains (6/hour) conflict with
up Illawarra local trains (8/hour + trains from Redfern/Eveleigh) would be
the biggest issue but no doubt manageable on weekends with deft signalling
work. And the service level on the City Circle Outer - wow 14 trains/hour
or 4.3 minute headways)!

The only other hot spot would be Turrella. Perhaps two crew members, one at
each end of the train (rather than the guard mid-train) with one as driver
and one as guard would allow a 20 second turnarounds at Turrella with extra
standing time being taken at Wolli Creek. The guard and driver swapping
roles but not positions at Turrella.

Alas, lost opportunities.

When is the next timetable rejig (post 21/05/00 and Olympics aside) due for
Sydney?

Two other questions for those in the know:
1) Is the extra length of track on the new down East Hills main at
Turrella (about 200m worth towards East Hills beyond the down end of
Turrella station) just to stable an extra train or will it connect with the
existing down East Hills line to allow overtaking prior to the completion of
the 4 tracks Turrella to Beverly Hills?
2) Under the 4 tracking project will Kingsgrove get a terminating road
between (and of course clear of) repositioned up and down East Hills local
lines on the down side of Kingsgrove station as mooted in the EIS?
