Well why not anyway. At various times in my career I have been required to
allocate codes to all sorts of things. It is generally advisable to use some
system so that if the number of items gets big you have some way of knowing
what you are talking about but otherwise there is no magic in it.

I suspect that the railway officials who allocate these codes do so without
seeing the significance in them that railfans do. On that basis your kids'
names make a good starting point.

I think the legendary Mal Cody needs to be resurrected here.
