Why do you "need" 4 platforms?
They could do something like at Epping.

4 tracks -> 3 platforms -> 2 tracks.

Who says that all the trains will terminate at Chatswood?

According to the current map, Hornsby -> City via Strathfild stop at
North Sydney!
