Re: Manually operated crossings in Melb?

: The boom barriers were installed in July 1997. This was part of Shitylink's
: closing of the Upfield line.

That is one of the reasons we now have trains running to the showgrounds
for anything there, exams etc.. (The only other exam trains proir to November
1998 were in 1956 when the exam were held at the showgrounds because the
exhibition buildings were in use for the Olympics)

Also that is when for any race meeting at Flemington they started to run
trains. Before there were only trains for the show and the spring racing.

Now there is about 9-10 weeks a year when trains are run to the Showgrounds
(was only about 1-2) and quite a lot of days when trains run to Flemington
Racecourse.

: Trains were stabled on the Racecourse line as services run to Newmarket with
: connecting bus service to Flemington Bridge. At the time, trains also were
: stabled at Flemington Racecourse during the day, and to aleviate the opening
: and closing of gates regularly, Boom barriers were installed. Signalling
: alterations also took place at Flemington Racecourse, including the
: re-installation of Semaphore arms on a couple of signals and the recommisioning
: of a couple of sets of points.

The also moved the "Limit of Shunt" board on the loop line between
Flemington Racecourse and Showgrounds so that two 6 car trains can
fit in there, when they issued the new signalling diagram they didn't
change this.

They used to have 4 home signals on the down arrival at Flemington
Racecourse, but in 1986 this was reduced to 2 homes and a disc.
The added another home on this post so that there are three homes (no.1,
no.2 and no.4 roads) and a disc (no.3 road) They also added a disc to
the down homes on the platform for a movement from No.2A to No.2.

How long have the points at the showgrounds to the refuge siding and the
loop line been cliped?

: I have some photo's of "Upfield" trains terminating at Newmarket if you are
: interested.
