Hello Craig,

Am I right in assuming you are talking about the list of pulls underneath the
actual track layout. If so, it is done that way because if you start at the LH
end of the yard (and the frames are numbered with lever 1 at the LH end), the
trains are moving in the up direction and thus the up pulls are on the left hand
side of the diagram. This (without actually checking my collection of around 500
signal box diagrams) I suggest applies to all signal boxes that were located on
the down side of the line and faced the track. A couple of boxes that I checked
that were/are located on the upside of the line (and thus had Melbourne on the LH
end) had the pulls the other way round. examples were Dandenong (power frame not
the panel) and Dendy Street.

Thus I contend that Donnybrook should not be included in the "many, many stupid
things...." that you speak of. If you can think of any other "stupid things" like
this in the signalling world, please post a message because I'd love to try and
put a different slant on things. The name of the game is knowledge and we all
benefit from it, including me because I then have to justify my answers. Craig we
all learn together.

David Langley.
