Re: New railway stations in Melbourne

The line between Camberwell and Burnley has room for 4 tracks all the way
expect the Yarra st bridge (Between Hawthorn and the river). Look at the
bridges around Auburn and Glenferrie next to the Up line there is room for
another bridge. The three bridges at Hawthorn have room next to the down
line. After all the used to have 4 lines in the point for the Kew line.
There is room for Platfroms at Auburn and Glenferrie on top of the shops.
There is room for another bridge next to the Up line accross the River.
There is room for another line at Burnley next to the Down line, however
this leave the problem of the Glen Waverley fly over in the wrong position.
The two bridges in Camberwell have room for another line next to the Up line,
but as all ready said Siding A would have to go and well as siding B.

Speaking of building new railways, the Bornia Grade Seperation tunnel will
be open this Sunday (5th) between 1100 - 1500 as part of an open day.0

: David,

: I don't think an extra line can be achieved without spending a lot of
: money by the P.T.C, for example:

: * Additional platform at Camberwell, Auburn, Glenferrie, and Hawthorn;
: * Get rid-off Siding A at Camberwell and this means during weekday
: off-peak, Alamein shuttle service has to dock somewhere else (I don't
: think the P.T.C. can expand the cutting without buying private
: properties along either side of the cutting!);
: * Additional track through Glenferrie affect Swinburne University, as
: existing buildings are fairly close to the railway reserve;
: * Can the P.T.C. install another track underneath the Burwood Road
: overpass at Hawthorn (city end)? The bridge clearance is minimum and
: there is insufficient room to put in another track next to the existing
: down line.

: Besides, additional line only benefits during peak periods, but during
: off-peak and weekend, only two lines are required. Therefore, I don't
: think this is money well-spend.

: Cheers,

: I.C.
