One of the interesting aspects of the current debate which has been 
highlighted by Mark Carter of rail2000 is that on the one hand , the federal 
govt is trying to sell their share of NRC , and on the other hand John Howard 
is actively supporting a privately run melb - darwin railway who ultimately 
will be a major competitor to NRC.
Indeed one has to wonder if NRC would have any future if the Melb - Darwin 
project actually ever got up.

Shows the total lack of a National rail Transport policy.
