 I find this comment that no one was at Thirmere very odd - the maintence
Manager (Jim) lives less than 5 minutes from the Museum - if some one blew
a horn in the station, you would be able to hear it at his place. 

 If the light engine came down the loop line, the movement had to be
prior arranged as I belive the Picton-Thirmere staff now lives at Thirmere
station so some one had to go to Thirmere and obtain the staff.

 42106 is a shell, and may not even be fit to move. Every thing inside
except the cabs were removed, no engine mounts, the radiator room and
heat exchangers gone, the lot. There may even be lose items hanging from
the underframe - brake piping and the like.

 The previous owners may even owe the museum money for the work carried
out and storage fees.

 It would be mildly interesting to know what is really going on.
