Dear all,

Just came across an article in the W.O.N. concerning on-train public
announcement. It stated that " ... drivers of all service trains (bold)
must use the on-train public address system (end bold) ...". The rest
of the article provides examples how to announce at different
situations, including:

* Stopping conditions
* Junction stations
* Terminal stations
* Altered stopping conditions
* Transposals at Flinders Street - Most commuters would not know the
formation of the up train upon arrival at Flinders Street.
* Disruptions/Delays
* General Announcement - "Railway 'jargon' must not be used (ie. 'Up' or
'Down' train, etc.) and time expressed in AM/PM format"!!

The article finishes with ... "All staff please comply" (in bold).
Perhaps our regular train commuters in Melbourne can keep us informed
whether this instruction has been complied by suburban drivers.

I.C.
