Re: Station announcements, Sydney

I personally think the SPI/cartridge announcements sound BETTER than new DVA PC
ones. Probably because the guys who program the SRA DVA Console (yes, I went
into control room @ town hall for a peek!) don't know which inflection (high or
low tone) to use- in SPI announcements the names always have falling inflections
whilst most SRA DVA Console programmers just use the one with a high inflection,
and some station names sound really weird- for example, "Merrylands". Most
stations apart from Strathfield would actually say "merylunds" (as it sounds),
but Strathfield (where the SRA DVA Console programmers were obviously brighter
than some others) used another file and it actually sounds like "Merry-lands"
(and that's how SPI/Amiga sounds when Merrylands is announced).

This has gotta be a union thing though, correct? Otherwise I reckon CityRail
would have gone with an auto system.
