Re: Murray Bridge to Mt Lofty Regrade

I have thought of a "cost no object" path crossing of the Mt Lofty
Range.

Divert to the west after Cookes Plains to cross the Murray on a new,
very long, bridge north of Wellington, then Strathalbyn, Meadows via
Paris Creek with a tunnel under the last ridge, Kangarilla, Clarendon,
tunnel to Happy Valley, south of the reservoir, then tunnel to
Darlington, bowl over the Sturt Police Station which some idiot of
a minister allowed to be built directly across the end of a railway
line and connect to Tonsley.

The grades would be fairly easy if the earthworks are extensive.

The line from Tonsley to Tonsley Junction could parallel the BG line,
from Tonsley Junct. to Goodwood is trickier - there is not enough room
for a third track due to a large drain and a couple of stations.

The River Murray Bridge would be spectacular: a long viaduct on the
Eastern side rising to give 20 or 30 metres clearance over the river,
then another long viaduct on the Wellington side since the cliffs
are very low here.

Cheers
