Includes earthworks , but not major bridgeworks, although unless there are a
large number of massive bridges to be built, bridge works would also be
included.
The current proposal for Alice Sp to Darwin which does include earthworks and
a number of large bridges at the northern end comes very close to the $1M per
km.
The new line from Newport to Nth Geelong C was similar in cost.
I am not aware of any large bridges that would need building.
Also , some of the new line would use existing alignments , so major
earthworks would not be required, thus reducing the cost.
(Monarto Sth to Kambrai already exists , as does Angaston to Gawler,so all
that would be required is either guage conversion or dual guaging in the case
of Angaston to Gawler, and re sleepering and re railing in the case of Monarto
Sth to Kambrai.)
Maybe some SA readers more familiar with the territory could indicate how many
new bridges would be needed.
cheers
