One thing that made Ingliston a little different was that the Marsh
was situated at the bottom of a falling grade from each direction.
The VR had an especial fear about this and the E.S. block rules were
modified to prevent up and down trains simultaneously being accepted
by the signalman. This was where the station of Rowsley was useful as
a Block Post, as trains coming down the grade could be held there
until the Down from Parwan was safely inside the home sigs. at the
Marsh. These rules got relaxed after E.S. and steam loco's
disappeared.
