Note the little 'Clarification' on page 2 of today's Canberra Times.  It
states that 
"David Bromage, a student at the Centre for the Public Awareness of
Science, wrote in a private capacity about the very-fast train on Saturday,
not as a spokesman for the centre as might have been inferred from the
credit line".

It would seem that the subject of very fast trains is a sensitive one in
certain quarters!
