I can't speak for NZ in general.  However, I do get to see Hamilton staff in
action occasionally.  One quote ... "Ladies and gentlemen, the train to
Wellington will be 10 minutes late.  If you complain, I'll make sure that it
is delayed another 10 minutes".

Just before you say "What! ...", I should add that there's there's a twinkle
in his eye and in his voice.  Everybody loves him and knows that he is
having them on.  I could go on with lots more quotes.

The staff at Hamilton are really fantastic. They do their job efficiently
AND cheerfully.

I have found the staff on board the trains to be very good too.
