In Melbourne a few years back a police car with siren/lights operating
(responding to an emergency) ducked around the booms as soon as the
train had passed, only to be collected by another train coming the
other way. The driver of a Peugeot waiting on the other side saw it all
happening: he said the policeman floored his Commodore at the last
minute but was not quick enough. The poor guy was killed.
