Re: Yet more radios needed



I'm here! Haven't had much time to read this newsgroup because I have been
doing so much overtime working on the said radio systems!

I am rather reluctant to comment at the moment, especially since it is a
very political issue at present. Both the CountyNet (old FreightRail) and
MetroNet (old CityRail) have draw backs and advantages. Reading through
these postings, the general operation of these systems has been identified
by some people, although there are still some inaccuracies. Briefly, both
systems use the same frequency band, have different protocols and channel
spacings. CountryNet uses GPS to determine which channel to communicate on,
while MetroNet uses transponders located in the "4 foot". Some obvious
problems can be worked out by most...

(I will write an article about the MetroNet system when I get a few spare
minutes and the politics settles).
