The knockers said that R711 would never turn a wheel again, let alone be
haul regular passenger trains.

Not entirely suitable for the eastern states on any gauge. The big driving
wheels are okay for Brunel's billard table out of Paddington, but wouldn't
be very useful on 1 in 50s. Remember that J515 could outrun Flying
Scotsman on part of the north east.

I don't think a QJ would fit in the Victorian loading gauge. Or do they
mean S304? :)

Fully operational steam locos from Ireland were also looked at a few years
ago.
