Gladstone Signal Cabin to close.

Gladstone (QLD) signal cabin is to close next month. Main line signalling
will be operated by Train Controllers in Rockhampton. Zone Release Shunting
will be introduced whereupon Train Controllers can transfer operation of
certain shunting signals to local shunting staff. These signals are operated
by the hand held radio's used by the shunting staff.

The push button panel at Callemondah signal cabin is being converted to PC
based UTC operation, similar to that used in Brisbane. At present, it will
be operated by the existing Signallers, now known as Rail Operators.

once Gladstone cabin closes, only three signal cabins will remain that are
operated by Signallers. These are Acacia Ridge, Callemondah and Rockhampton
'A' cabins. None of these cabins have a closure date.
