Seymour isn't the perfect preservation group. While they are much better than
Steamrail they still put nameplates on some of their locos. These shouldn't be
there if they are a true preservation group. A true preservation group would
restore their items to a condition that is as close as operationally possible to
their condition while they were in service with one of their former commercial
operators. When you start adding non authentic items like the nameplates on J515,
B74 and GM36 you turn it into nothing more than a modern fantasy of what used to
be. If Seymour removed the nameplates on B74 then it would be the best preserved
example of a VR B class in the state. It is a waste to put all that effort into a
locomotive and then ruin it with something as simple as a nameplate. You could say
that I am being extremely critical and very picky but where do you draw the line?
GNRS operate former CR, WAGR and VR motive power with only a few modifications
like the livery and some other operational modifications. Are these locos
preserved because they are still similar to their original condition? I think the
CHTR know the true meaning of preservation. All of their rollingstock is being
restored as close as possible to the condition they operated in on the VR. There
are no nameplates, strange colour schemes, headboards or any other non-essential
modern additions.
