Are the EE locos 4 pipe? We used to operate 4 pipe EE locos in multiple
with 3 pipe GMs here with limited success as I remember. Another problem
was the GMs are 8 power notch and the EE were 10 power notch so they did not
gel up so well.

The 1460/1500 class we got from QR were 4 pipe and the boffins in Wellington
attached a box in the cab that enabled them to be operated with 3 pipe
locos. The MR pipe was blanked and some other mods were done. The biggest
hassle with them was that they often failed to release the loco brakes when
the automatic brake was applied and the independant released which caused
loads of smoke and chopped out a set of blocks every trip to Picton which is
350kms or so.
I think these locos were converted to 3 pipe with the upgrade and installed
with 26L brakes before being shipped west.
