The pipe problem seemed to be the major impediment between the QR and TGR
locos, with the TGR going for three pipe when they converted the Z/ZA from
vacuum to air as opp[osed to the four pipe arrangement which they later
inherited on the ZB and ZC locos.

The later EE locos in Australia did not have `notched' throttles. From the
off position they went to a `minimum power notch' after which power
application was `infinitely variable up to the maximum power position'.
