Now that I'm at home and can get out my copy of "Locomotives of Australian National (mainland)" it has the following under the NSU section:
"After initial running trials in England, the Sulzer powered NSUs started to arrive in Australia. NSU51 arrived at Port Adelaide on 20th May 1954, and was delivered to Port Pirie on broad gauge 'slave' bogies, thence fitted with standard gauge bogies for test purposes. NSU51 was named George McLeay, after the then Minister for Shipping and Transport, at a ceremony held at Port Augusta on 12th June 1954, and ran a standard gauge special with guests to Bookaloo on the Trans Australia Railway and return to Port Augusta."

Chris
