Perth Electric Tramway Society - Membership

Become a Member

The lifeblood of the Perth Electric Tramway Society (PETS) is the energy and enthusiasm of its members - who are all volunteers. Our mission is supported by these talented and dedicated people from all walks of life who volunteer their service in the belief that their contribution will make an impact on the world around them.

The Society welcomes as members all those with an interest in preserving and passing on to future generations the tramway and trolley-bus heritage of Western Australia.

The Society needs volunteers for ongoing activities - everything from operating our regular Heritage Tramway experience to trackwork, electrical maintenance and painting. We can use as much or as little of your time as you wish to offer. Your existing skills will be highly valued. If you have no strong skills base, bring your enthusiasm and you will soon develop the new skills and knowledge that you need.

Quite often the person driving the tram or collecting fares is the same person who works on maintenance or restoration.

Membership of the Society offers you:
  • Regular Museum workdays
    • every Wednesday (great for the retired or those with flexible working hours)
    • every third Sunday
    • selected Saturdays
  • Involvement in Heritage Tramway operations within Whiteman Park - tram crews are needed on
    • weekends
    • public holidays

  • The opportunity to learn more about the history of urban electric transport in Australia, and especially in Western Australia
  • The chance to promote knowledge of the electric transport era
  • A bimonthly magazine, Carbarn, which contains historical information and Society news
  • Involvement in restoration projects
  • The chance to use your specialist skills
  • The chance to develop new skills
  • The chance to subscribe to Trolley Wire, the national journal with news of Australia’s tramways and tramway museums
  • Family benefits – admission to Park, tram rides, the chance to work together

  • Reciprocal benefits with associated Tramway Museums throughout Australia and New Zealand
  • The opportunity to just enjoy trams and make lifelong friends with people with similar interests
